Rose Benoit-Chery
Hello my name is Rose Benoit-Chery. I am the director here at Bethany Academy. I was the Program Coordinator and lead teacher at Grace Trinity Academy for six years. I have over 16 years experience working in the field of Early Childhood Education. I have worked with children from infancy through school age. I have worked in several capacities in the Education field such as a lead teacher, Infant/toddler Coordinator and Summer Camp Counselor. I have an Associates in Early Childhood Education, Bachelors in Child Psychology and I am currently enrolled in Arcadia for my Masters in Education with a concentration in children’s literature as well as working on my certification.
On a personal note I was born in Haiti, but raised in Brooklyn, New York. I moved to Philadelphia 10 years ago. I am an only child. I speak English, Creole and some Spanish. I am married with two children, my daughter Janiece is 9 years old and my son Jaden is 6 years old. My favorite color is pink. My hobbies are reading, putting together puzzles and praising the Lord.I have always wanted to work with children. It all started in my first semester in college where I volunteered during classes in the Early Childhood Center. I was hooked from that moment on.
My philosophy for working with children is encouraging development through the children’s learning with hands on active learning as well as working to incorporate the families into the children’s learning process. The focus is on the whole child. As much as it is important for children to learn academic concepts, it is even more crucial to remember that children’s social and emotional needs must be met as well. They work hand in hand. The following quote provides a better idea of learning for children.
“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.” ― Benjamin Franklin
